Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures

Alzheimer's Disease is estimated to affect as many as four million Americans today and by the year 2040, over 14 million are expected to have the disease. Alzheimer's has a prevalence of 10 percent in the 65+ population, 25-30 percent of those over 75+, and over 47 percent of the 85+.

Historically, those people requiring any form of dementia care have almost exclusively been served in skilled nursing facilities, either in a secured or locked unit of the nursing home, or for those in the early stages, co-mingled with other residents.

As the health care field learns more about Alzheimer's and related disorders, it is clear those in the early or mid-stages of the disease are served more cost-effectively and care-effectively in a less restrictive environment which more closely approximates a home-like setting.
