Letter from a daughter of a Dungeness Courte resident:
To the Angels at Dungeness Courte,
I am writing this letter because I want the people at Dungeness Courte (DC) to know they are appreciated by me, my siblings and especially by my mother. My mom’s journey to DC may not be that unlike many of your other residents. However, I can speak only to hers and my experience with all of you.
I remember the day we brought her to DC. She was so angry and confused. In the two years preceding that day she had moved from her home of 50 years into her first assisted living home, then her second, then the nursing home and finally made her way to you. On that day, the staff at DC demonstrated the skills I had hungered to see and frankly did not know existed. I have since learned so much about my mother’s disease, both through personal research, personal experience with my mom and time spent with the staff while educating my family. The entire staff at DC have been teachers as well.
My mother has her favorites, which I imagine is not unusual. However, I would be hard pressed to single out one person that has done more or less to positively impact her life and mine by default. The admissions director pulled herself out of her garden on a holiday when we called almost two years ago in search of a home for mom. The program director seems to delight in her work and said ‘You call this work?’ when I spoke with her on Christmas Day. Everyone always seems to be having fun too. The staff make my mom's room 'homey' not to mention functional. I can always count on a ready smile when I walk through the door and a friendly voice on the other end of the phone. My mom has adopted one of the staff as her new daughter and truly misses her on her days off. The staff's knowledge, wisdom and compassion are demonstrated every time I walk through the door at DC. There are other angels whose faces I know, but names I have forgotten, but they know who they are. The staff at DC are special, not just good at what they do, but exceptional.
Thank you for making this part of my mother's life journey as good as it can be.
— Daughter of Resident
“My heartfelt thanks to all of you for your loving care of my husband. I don’t think he could have received better care anywhere. I’m sure he would like to thank you for all the hugs and kisses, that in his wildest dreams he never thought he’d be receiving from so many young women in his old age. Special thanks to the kind and caring nurses who helped us so much with their presence and advice and for keeping him free from pain God Bless all of you.”
“A note of thanks to everyone at Dungeness Courte that cared for my aunt. We were very impressed with the facility and the staff that we met when we visited. The care given at Dungeness Courte was what we had hoped would be there for her until the end, thank you, one and all for giving her a time of sincere caregiving. Our family appreciates all that you did for her.”
“To each and everyone of you at Dungeness Courte, I can’t begin to tell you all how much your kindness means to me. I know my father was not the easiest resident to care for. He could be quite cantankerous, as we all know. Your thoughtfulness and caring has not gone unnoticed and I appreciate every thing all of you has done. It takes a special kind of person to care for the residents at Dungeness Courte, and all of you are very special people. Thank you so much for everything.”
“Dear Friends at Dungeness Courte, I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of you. You work so well as a team to make the lives of your residents comfortable, safe and happy. From the first moment I entered your community I was aware of the family atmosphere, the genuine care, and love that are displayed in endless ways. My dear friend’s stay with you was fairly short, but the kindness he found among all of you made one of the most difficult periods in his life a dignified and meaningful time. The last thing he ever wanted to have to do was to move from his home. The fact that he so often spoke to me of how nice the people and accommodations were, speaks volumes about the home you all work to provide."
“The first time I visited, I was greeted by name, by many of you on staff. Everyone knew my friend and seemed to know what his unique needs were. You showed him he was special to you, as all of your residents are. I knew when I could not be with him that he was surrounded by people who cared for him as deeply as I did. I slept better than I had in months because of all of you. He was not the only recipient of your kindnesses. I felt a much needed support and welcome from your family. While spending time with my friend, I observed patience, creativity, generosity and leadership in every interaction between staff and residents. I have never been more impressed. Thank you, each one, who contributes in the countless ways you all do to make the lives of all your guests special and significant. I will never forget the spirit of love I found with you.
Blessings and Great Peace.”
